Police in Kisoro have arrested a police officer for allegedly shooting and badly injuring a student of Muhabura Shine Seconday School.
Ogondua Offen, a police officer attached to Kisoro Field Force Unit was arrested on Saturday after allegedly shooting a student following an incident that erupted during a soccer match.
Ogondua who is at a rank of Police Constable (PC) is said to have shot Twesigye in the right leg and wounded him badly.
On Saturday, Muhabura Shine S.S and Mutolere High School had a soccer match during the Regional Coca Cocacola Post Primary tournament which was played at the Mutolere H.S playground.
However, chaos broke out in the course of the match and in an effort to rescue a student of Mutolere, identified as Derrick Mugabi who was being attacked by students of Muhabura, the accused police officer shot at Twesigye with a live bullet.
“He used live bullets where it is not recommended for such work. However, we are trying to establish the truth of the matter after which he [police officer] will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” said the Police Spokesperson for Kigezi region, Elly Matte.
Both students; Mugabi and Twesigye are currently admitted at Mutolere hospital in Kisoro.
