Roots Party has exuded confidence that its presidential candidate Prof. George Wajackoyah will clinch the presidency seat once the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) makes an official announcement on the same.

Despite preliminary results intimating that Kenya Kwanza frontman William Ruto and his Azimio counterpart Raila Odinga hold a significant lead over Wajackoyah and Agano party candidate David Mwaure,  the party is still convinced that the pro-marijuana professor will be named Kenya’s next president once vote totaling is completed.

“The first phase was exercised by the citizenry, the second phase by the IEBC, the body constitutionally mandated to tally the votes and announce a winner. We are confident that we will win through a fair, free and credible process,” said the party Secretary General Adam Kadernani in a statement on Saturday.

He likewise urged Kenyans to stay patient and maintain peace as they wait for the official announcement from IEBC, noting that they should not allow themselves to be divided by politics.

“Our presidential candidate Prof George Wajackoyah would like Kenyans to maintain peace and accord the IEBC the patience it deserves in tallying the votes. Our Candidate will address the Nation after the official announcement by IEBC. Keep peace, love your neighbor. Kenya is bigger than all of us,” said Kadernani.

The Roots Party statement comes just hours after his Agano party counterpart Mwaure conceded defeat in the presidential race.

When he threw in the towel, Mwaure noted that the votes he had managed to garner, as per preliminary results, were much lower than the frontrunners in the race.
