KAMPALA – The Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (UIBFS) has celebrated a year of remarkable growth, institutional transformation and professional excellence after successfully holding its 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and 13th Graduation Ceremony at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel.

Held under the theme, “Beyond Graduation: Building Bankers for Leadership and Transformation,” the event brought together members, regulators, banking industry leaders, development partners, graduates and other stakeholders to review the Institute’s performance and celebrate the latest cohort of banking professionals.

Opening the AGM, UIBFS Board Chairman Mr. Michael K. Mugabi praised the Institute for remaining focused on its strategic mandate despite operating in a rapidly evolving financial sector.

He highlighted several milestones achieved during the year, including the Institute’s rebranding under its new brand promise, “Learn, Transform, Lead,” the training of 4,062 financial sector professionals, the launch of the Industry Competence Framework Project, development of a Green Finance Curriculum, and the inaugural Research Conference and Research Agenda in partnership with Makerere University.

Mugabi also noted the successful launch of the inaugural Bankers’ Awards, which attracted more than 322 industry leaders, alongside a significant financial turnaround.

The Institute posted a profit after tax of UGX 8.4 million in 2025, representing a 104.28 percent increase compared to a UGX 195 million loss recorded in 2024.

UIBFS Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Goretti Masadde thanked members, regulators, development partners and stakeholders for their continued confidence in the Institute, describing 2025 as a defining year.

She said the Institute had strengthened its position through innovation, research, strategic partnerships and professional development initiatives aimed at building a more competent and resilient financial services sector.

Following the AGM, the Institute conferred certificates and diplomas upon 423 graduands who successfully completed professional programmes in various banking and financial services disciplines.

The qualifications were awarded by the Patron of UIBFS, the Governor of Bank of Uganda, represented by Mr. Hannington Wasswa, Director of Commercial Banking.

The graduates completed programmes including Chartered Banker Level I (Certified Professional Banker), Chartered Banker Level II (Executive Banker), Certified Credit Management, Diploma in Microfinance, Microfinance Apprenticeship Programme, Foundation Certification in Banking and Financial Services, Compliance, Risk Management, Sustainable Finance, Trade Finance, SACCO Management, ACI Dealing, Anti-Money Laundering, Credit and Lending, and Credit Risk and Non-Performing Loans Management.

The Institute also highlighted its growing academic partnerships with Makerere University and Mountains of the Moon University, through which it offers a Master of Arts in Financial Services and a Postgraduate Diploma in Agricultural Risk Management and Finance, respectively.

During the ceremony, the outgoing UIBFS Council President and Managing Director of Centenary Bank, Dr. Fabian Kasi, was recognised for his leadership, commitment and steadfast support to the Institute during his tenure.

Addressing the graduates, speakers urged them to continue embracing lifelong learning, professional excellence and ethical leadership while contributing to the transformation and growth of Uganda’s financial services industry.

The Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services is Uganda’s leading provider of professional banking and financial services training, promoting professionalism, research, consultancy and financial inclusion across the sector.
