The strategic partnership between Uganda and Kenya’s coastal tourism sector was officially honoured at the Global Tourism Resilience Day, Conference, and Expo Awards held on February 17, 2026.

The award celebrates joint efforts by the two countries to strengthen regional tourism by linking Uganda’s diverse inland attractions with Kenya’s coastal tourism experience. The collaboration has been praised as a model for East African regional integration and economic sustainability in the tourism industry.

The Uganda Consulate in Mombasa announced that the Uganda–Kenya Coast Collaboration received the Cross-Border Coastal Tourism Resilience Award during the 4th Global Tourism Resilience Day Awards, hosted at Safari Park in Nairobi.

The event was graced by Hon. Rebecca Miano, EGH, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, who served as the chief guest.

Global Tourism Resilience Day provides an international platform to recognise institutions and stakeholders demonstrating leadership in tourism sustainability, conservation, crisis preparedness, safety, and post-crisis recovery.

Kenya made history by becoming the first African country to host the global celebration of Tourism Resilience Day.

The award recognised the joint work of the Uganda Consulate in Mombasa and its partners in promoting marine conservation, improving shared crisis response mechanisms, and supporting cooperative coastal destination management.

The milestone highlights Uganda’s commitment to strengthening regional tourism promotion and developing resilient tourism systems that benefit both Uganda and the wider East African Community.

The Uganda–Kenya Coast collaboration was launched in 2022 by the Uganda Consulate in Mombasa to boost tourism exchanges between the two countries. Since its inception, the initiative has contributed to increased visibility of Uganda’s tourism products, leading to a rise in the number of Kenyan visitors traveling to Uganda.
