Uganda Goes Top of the Table Standings in EAC Games

The Parliament of Uganda has registered emphatic performances in men’s and women’s athletics, basketball and volleyball, putting the legislature at the top of the table standings in the ongoing EAC inter-parliamentary games.

In the men’s basketball final played in Lugogo on Tuesday night, 9 December 2025, Uganda outclassed Kenya 48 – 34 in a high-intensity encounter marked by grit, pace and superior tactical execution.

From the opening tip-off, Uganda dictated the tempo, with Captain Hon. Mwine Mpaka spearheading the attack through powerful drives that drew repeated fouls and ignited the home crowd.

Centre Hon. Emmanuel Omoding dominated the paint on both ends, scoring a game-high 11 points, while Hon. Bosco Okiror added 10 more to stretch Kenya’s defence.

Kenya’s sharp shooter, David Wakoli, sank two three-pointers, but Uganda’s Hon. Donald Katalihwa shadowed him throughout the game, limiting his impact. Kenya’s best moments came through Hon. Allan Chesang, who finished with 9 points and a team-high 7 rebounds, while Wakoli added 7 points.

Earlier on Sunday, 7 December, the Uganda women’s team, captained by Hon. Suzan Amer,o had sealed their gold with a dominant 40 – 20 victory over Kenya, having led in all quarters.

Thursday, 11 December 2025, brought a full day of competition, where Uganda’s athletes dominated several events, particularly in walking races, sprints, and relays. In the women’s 1600m walk, Christine Akello finished in 11:35.00, followed by teammate Suzan Abeja, with Kenya’s Faith Nyenze and Susan Agugi taking third and fourth.

Kenya won the men’s walk with Simon Kingara, Erastus Kivasu, and Jared Okello taking the top three spots, while Uganda’s Patrick Ochan finished fourth.

Uganda’s sprinting prowess was on full display in the 200m races, where Bernard Odoi claimed first place in the men’s race in 25.70 seconds, followed by teammate Patrick Ochan, with Kenya’s Joe Nyute in third. In the women’s 200m, Uganda secured a 1–2 finish with Taaka Agnes and Auma Hellen, leaving Kenya third.

The 800m races were closely contested. Kenya’s Titus Lotee won the men’s heat ahead of Uganda’s Julius Acon, while Rwanda’s Mukabalisa Germaine claimed the women’s race, ahead of Uganda’s Hellen Auma and Kenya’s Hezema Lemalitian.

In the relays, Kenya’s men clinched the 4×400m relay, leaving Uganda in second, while Uganda’s women thrilled the crowd by capturing the women’s 4×400m relay, rounding off the day with a strong display.

In volleyball (women), Uganda beat Kenya, 3 – 0, while Kenya beat Uganda 3 – 1 in the men’s game played at Makerere University.

In netball, Uganda humbled Kenya 72 – 12 with standout performances from Hon. Juliet Kakande and captain Hon. Sarah Netalisire, whose sharp shooting and coordination kept Uganda firmly in control. The team meets Burundi next.

The EAC inter-parliamentary games continue at different venues until next week.
