The Ugandan Government has called for a peaceful resolution of conflicts in the Middle East, urging acceptance of both Israel and the right of Palestinians to establish their own state.

In a statement issued on Monday, September 21, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Uganda does not support what it described as unjust wars and called on all parties to pursue peaceful solutions to the region’s conflicts.

“Uganda never supports wars that are not just,” the statement said.

The Government said many of the complications in the Middle East stem from what it described as the failure of different actors to address the Israeli-Palestinian question justly.

“Uganda continues to call for peaceful resolution of the conflicts in the Middle East,” the statement said, adding that the country’s position was that both Israel should be accepted and Palestinians should have their own state.

The statement also addressed the issue of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, saying it should be handled in accordance with international law.

Uganda further criticised what it described as sectarian approaches to politics based on religious identity, citing divisions among Jews, Christians, Sunni Muslims and Shia Muslims.

“Our view is that the politics of identity (ethnic, religious) is an ideological and strategic blunder and a poison for any situation,” the Government said.

It said Uganda had experienced the effects of identity-based politics in the past and warned against its use in addressing conflicts.

“Some countries in Africa, including Uganda in the past, have been ruined by this poison,” the statement said.

The statement was issued by Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 21 as conflict and diplomatic tensions continued across parts of the Middle East.

Uganda’s Foreign Affairs Ministry is responsible for implementing and managing the country’s foreign policy, including promoting regional and international peace and security and adherence to international law.
