UNRA Executive Director, Allen Kagina, and a team of engineers on Sunday, September 4, 2022 went to Pakwach district for an inspection of the section affected by floods.

“UNRA ED is off to Pakwach this morning for an inspection of a section affected by floods. In the company of Hydrologists & Bridge specialists at UNRA and will meet up with the local leadership on site to share information on planned interventions,” UNRA revealed.

In Pakwach, Kagina commended the district leadership on the ground including Uganda Police for the cooperation extended in managing traffic flow when the section along the road flooded.

On Saturday, heavy flooding occurred along the Olwiyo-Pakwach road, just adjacent to the Pakwach Bridge.

This affected connectivity to Pakwach, Arua and other parts of the West Nile.

“While the water levels are still high to allow any intervention at the moment, our technical teams are monitoring the situation and have planned to intervene with an appropriate response once the water levels subside,” UNRA said.

UNRA had advised road users intending to connect to the West Nile area from Kampala and Lira to use Gulu, Adjumani road and connect to Laropi ferry to Moyo.

Those from Arua were advised to use Moyo to Laropi ferry to connect to Gulu and beyond or alternatively use the Paara-Kisanja Park junction road.
The ferry operates between 07:00am to 07:00pm.

“Travelers are advised to contact the ferry crew for more information on the ferry’s restrictions and other travel.”

The roads authority appealed to all road users across the country to take precautions and desist from using flooded areas for their own safety.
