Stanbic Bank has made a donation over 600 books worth over Shs 10 million, 5 computers and a printer to St. Mbaga Tuzinde Primary School to improve learning and teaching conditions for both the students and teachers.

The items were handed over to the school last week by the Chief Financial Officer at Stanbic Bank Sam Mwongeza.

Mwogeza emphasized that promoting education is a major focus for the bank’s corporate social investments.

“Education is an integral part of the bank’s objectives in fostering socio-economic development. We need to encourage the advancement of education at all levels to give children today the foundation for their success tomorrow,” he said during the handover event.

Mwongeza noted that it is essential to provide equal opportunities for every child and quality education to foster their development through a variety of learning opportunities.

St. Mbaga Tuzinde Primary School is a government-funded school supervised by Kampala Capital City Council with a population of 761 students comprised of both a nursery and primary sections.

Mwogeza further remarked; “We believe that schools such as these that are looking to build a future for our next generation of leaders, but with challenged resources require our collective support to provide quality education, which is a human right”.

“They are faced with challenges like inadequate facilities and lack of funding, among others, that hinder the progress of educational development in our country.”

According to the State of Education in Africa report 2015, more students than ever before in history are enrolled in schools throughout Africa and yet the pipeline of trained teachers, instructional materials, and infrastructure development have not kept pace with the heavy demand.

Rising enrolment rates have drastically outpaced education funding, resulting in shortages of instructional materials and supplies, poorly stocked libraries and the overuse of school facilities.

In receiving the donated items, the school’s head teacher, Winfred Byansi said the school has been faced with several challenges that have directly affected the teacher’s ability to nurture the pupils.

“We are more than grateful to Stanbic Bank for having come out to support us with this generous contribution. We believe that this support will have an extremely huge impact on the quality of education for the students and also improve creativity, innovativeness and learning in the classroom,” she said.
