The Minister’s Aide-de-Camp (ADC), Lt. Ronald Otim, was similarly shot and wounded and is currently receiving treatment at Mulago Hospital.

“Pte. Sabiiti had been part of the UPDF-seconded security detail for the Minister for only a month (April),” said A.D Kibenge Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development.

He said the circumstances leading to the incident are being investigated.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late Minister, and pray that Lt. Otim is out of danger.”

He added: “The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development will provide additional information in due course and as may be advised by the investigating team, Parliament and the relevant authorities of Government. May the soul of Col. (Rtd.) Charles Okello Engola Macodwogo Rest in Peace.”
