Pride Bank Earns ISO Certification to Strengthen Information Security

Pride Bank Limited has attained the internationally recognised ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Certification, a significant milestone in its commitment to secure and responsible banking.

The ISO/IEC 27001:2022 standard is the world’s leading framework for Information Security Management Systems (ISMS). Developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), it provides organisations with a structured approach to identifying, assessing and managing information security risks.

The standard enables organisations to establish governance structures, policies and controls that protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information while promoting continual improvement.

Receiving ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Certification means that Pride Bank’s Information Security Management System has undergone an independent assessment by an accredited certification body and has been verified to comply with internationally recognised best practices.

This achievement confirms that the Bank has implemented robust systems and processes designed to protect customer information, manage cybersecurity risks and strengthen operational resilience across the organisation.

For customers, this certification provides confidence that the personal and financial information they entrust to Pride Bank is protected through internationally recognised security standards.

Whether opening an account, using digital banking platforms, making payments or accessing financial services, customers can be assured that safeguarding their information remains a priority embedded within the Bank’s operations.

Information security is about much more than preventing cyberattacks. It is about ensuring that information remains confidential, is accessed only by authorised individuals, maintains its accuracy throughout its lifecycle, and is available whenever customers and employees legitimately require it.

These principles are at the heart of ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and are fundamental to delivering secure, reliable and trusted banking services.

The financial services sector continues to experience rapid digital transformation. Mobile banking, internet banking, digital payments and cloud technologies have created greater convenience and expanded access to financial services for millions of people.

At the same time, these technological advancements have introduced increasingly sophisticated cybersecurity threats that require financial institutions to continually strengthen their security capabilities.

ISO/IEC 27001:2022 encourages organisations to adopt a proactive and risk-based approach to information security. Rather than responding only after incidents occur, institutions are expected to identify potential threats, assess vulnerabilities, implement preventive controls and continuously monitor their effectiveness.

This approach enables organisations to build resilience while adapting to an ever-changing cybersecurity landscape.

For Pride Bank, the certification reflects years of investment in governance, technology, people and process.

Information security is integrated into the Bank’s strategic decision-making,

operational procedures and organisational culture. Every department contributes towards protecting information assets, demonstrating that information security is a shared responsibility rather than the function of a single team.

The certification also reinforces Pride Bank’s commitment to strong corporate governance and regulatory compliance.

Financial institutions operate within an increasingly complex regulatory environment that requires the protection of customer information and the responsible management of operational risks.

By aligning its Information Security Management System with internationally recognised standards, the Bank strengthens its governance framework while supporting compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

An equally important aspect of ISO/IEC 27001:2022 is its emphasis on continuous improvement. Certification is not a one-time achievement but an ongoing commitment.

Mike Kamau, Managing Director of Certi-Trust, congratulated Pride Bank on achieving the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Certification, describing it as an important milestone while reminding the Bank that certification marks the beginning of a continuous journey.

“Certification is not the end of the journey. The business environment is constantly changing, technology is evolving, regulations continue to change, and organisations must adapt accordingly,” he said.

He noted that the true value of the certification lies in fostering a culture of continuous improvement, where organisations consistently strengthen their systems to meet evolving risks and customer expectations.

“If you continue improving your systems, your organisation will continue to grow, and so will the confidence that your customers have in you.  That is what this certification is really about, creating a culture of continuous improvement,” Kamau added.

Kamau further revealed that Pride Bank will now be listed in Certi-Trust’s global certification directory, allowing organisations worldwide to verify its certification status.

He assured the Bank of Certi-Trust’s continued support through annual surveillance audits, emphasising that maintaining and continually improving the Information Security Management System will be key to sustaining this internationally recognised standard.

Achieving this certification has been made possible through the collective efforts of Pride Bank’s Board of Directors, Management, employees and implementation partners.

“Their commitment, collaboration and dedication have enabled the Bank to build an Information Security Management System that meets global standards while supporting the institution’s long-term strategic objectives,” the bank said.

“As the financial sector continues to evolve, Pride Bank remains dedicated to delivering secure, innovative and customer-centred banking services while continuously strengthening its resilience against emerging information security risks,” the bank revealed.
