Following back to back wins (African Utility of the year 2013/2014 and African Utility of the year 2015/2016), the World Confederation of Businesses has awarded the corporation for its distinguished excellence in utility management, business leadership, quality of service, management systems, innovation and creativity, Corporate Social Responsibility, and benchmarking services/capacity building of other utilities in the world.
The move comes against the backdrop of a massive water extension rollout programme that has seen NWSC increase service coverage from 23 towns in 2013 to now 200 towns across the country.
NWSC board chairman Dr. Eng Christopher Ebal and Corporation Secretary/Deputy Managing Director Board affairs Mrs Edith Kateete and the Senior Corprate Marketing Officer John Fisher Sekabira received the award on behalf of the Corporation at the event held St Thomas, United States.
The latest recognition comes just a few months after NWSC’s sterling performance in services provision was nominated in the 2017 African utility of the year and the managing Director Dr. Eng Silver Mugisha nominated for outstanding contribution in the water sector.
Receiving the award, NWSC Board Chairman, Dr. Eng Christopher Ebal, shared the Corporation’s strategic direction and commitment towards clean safe water for all Ugandans.
The annual water mains network expansion has grown from 80km in 2013 to now over 1000kms of water mains being laid per financial year.
He attributed this success to the Corporation’s commitment towards excellent service.
He further added that NWSC coverage is currently at about 80% and the corporation is committed to 100% service coverage and the corporation is undertaking practical service delivery programmes under its water for all programme i.e Infrastructure service delivery plans, water supply stabilization plans among many others to deliver 100% access to safe clean water in all NWSC service areas by 2020.
