Following back to back wins (African Utility of the year 2013/2014 and African Utility of the year 2015/2016), the World Confederation of Businesses has awarded the corporation for its distinguished excellence in utility management, business leadership, quality of service, management systems, innovation and creativity, Corporate Social Responsibility, and benchmarking services/capacity building of  other utilities in the world.

The move comes against the backdrop of a massive water extension rollout programme that has seen NWSC increase service coverage from 23 towns in 2013 to now 200 towns across the country.
