Major General Sam Kavuma has Tuesday handed over the office of Deputy Commader of Air Force to Maj Gen Gavas Mugyenyi who was recently appointed to succeed him.
The hand over ceremony which was held at the Air Force headquarters in Entebbe was presided over by the Commander Air Force (CAF) Maj General Charles Lutaaya and witnessed by UPDAF Chief of Staff (COS) Brig Birungi, Uganda Air Force Academy Commander Brig Kazahura, Under Secretary Air Force Mr. Mutabazi UPDAF Air Base Comanders and Directors.
A recent reshuffle by the Commander-in-chief, President Yoweri Museveni saw Maj Gen Kavuma promoted and appointed Deputy Commander Land Forces and replaced by Maj Gen Gavas Mugyenyi whose previous posting was Air Defence (AD) Commander.
In his remarks before officially handing over office, Maj Gen Kavuma appreciated UPDF leadership for having given him the privilege of serving within Air Force, which he said has enabled him to enhance his knowledge especially in the field of Air Force.
“I can now move to international conferences and confidently discuss and deliberate Air Force issues,” he said.
He also thanked the Commander of Air Forces, Maj Gen Charles Lutaaya for having delegated to him responsibilities that have enabled him perform his roles diligently through team work, cooperation and vertical/horizontal consultations.
On his part, Maj Gen Gavas Mugyenyi thanked UPDF leadership for the appointment and requested UPDAF leadership to extend to him the same support and cooperation that was accorded to his predecessor.
He said that his appointment is a tour of duty which he is ready to perform professionally.
Maj Gen Mugyenyi urged for sustainability of the already existing spirit of cooperation within UPDAF as they work harder towards maintaining UPDAF mission and mandate.
Maj General Charles Lutaaya who commands the Air Force congratulated Maj Gen Kavuma upon his promotion and appointment as Deputy Commander Land Forces (D/CLF).
He said Maj Gen Kavuma’s professional leadership and command style massively contributed to UPDAF progression and performance.
He asked Gen Kavuma to take on the role of an ‘Air Force ambassador’ at his new office since he has been at the helm of UPDAF leadership.
To his new deputy, Maj Gen Lutaaya pledged utmost support and cooperation, and welcomed his vast knowledge from Air Defence which has now been integrated with Air Force.
