The Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura has asked politicians and other members of the public to stop bashing police over the recent wave of women murders in Wakiso district.

Speaking to residents of Katabi on Thursday, Kayihura said that the issue of women murders should not be something to laugh about but rather rally collective responsibility to counter it.

“Be fair to us .You can judge us if we are negligent but do not play politics, “Gen.Kayihura said.

“These are lives of people we are dealing with. Do not make reckless statements.”

The police chief said that police is trying its best to see that they apprehend suspects in the murder of women adding that they are fighting hard to end the murders.

He added that through community policing, the public should work together with police so as to help solve the murders.

According to Kayihura, through registration of households, police and the residents will successfully combat crime in the country.

A spate of murders targeting women broke out in May in parts of Entebbe and Nansana in which women went mission only to be discovered dead and sticks shoved in their genital parts. The pattern of killings has since claimed 24 women in a space of 5 months. Police has made several arrests but is yet to pronounce itself on the cause of the deaths.
