The Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has urged the people of Namavundu in Kamuli District, to desist from grabbing land donated to religious institutions.

“These days, it’s common for clan members to chase or disown establishments like schools, mosques, churches or even health facilities after the death of the landlord, ” Kadaga said.

She however, commended the family of the late Hajj Hamis Mutengu in Namavundu for carrying forward the projects started by the cleric.

Kadaga made the remarks at the official opening ceremony of Kikiki Busimba Mosque in Namavundu, Kamuli on Sunday, 13th August 2017.

The new mosque was financed by the late Haji Hamis Mutengu’s family. Other financers included Haji Bulaimu Muwanga Kibirige (BMK), who the Speaker recognised for supporting the people of Busoga.

Since the mosque also runs Mutengo Memorial Primary School on the same land, Kadaga asked the mosque and school management to work hard to uplift the face of Busoga in the education sector.

Kadaga noted that in the previous primary leaving exams, Busoga had the six worst performing schools but that Kamuli district had good performance.

She urged parents, teachers and the students to focus more on education since it’s through education that income inequality gaps can be bridged.
