KAMPALA — dfcu Foundation has donated 100 desktop computers to the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance in a move aimed at expanding digital access and equipping learners in underserved communities with technology and digital skills.

The handover, held on Tuesday, reinforces a partnership between dfcu Foundation and the Ministry under a Memorandum of Understanding signed last year to advance Uganda’s digital transformation agenda.

According to the Ministry, the computers will be distributed to schools in underserved communities across the country to help bridge the digital divide and provide learners with practical digital skills needed in an increasingly technology-driven economy.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, dfcu Foundation Executive Director Mabel Ndawula said the initiative reflects the institution’s long-term commitment to digital and financial inclusion.

“This is not a one-off initiative. It is a long-term partnership to equip women, youth and entrepreneurs with the digital and financial skills they need to thrive,” Ndawula said.

Helena Mayanja, dfcu Bank’s Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, said access to technology and knowledge is critical to creating opportunities for young people.

“Access to knowledge, skills and technology transforms lives and creates opportunity,” she said.

Mayanja added that the donation underscores dfcu’s continued commitment to supporting Uganda’s digital future through strategic investments in education and technology.

Receiving the computers, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, Dr Aminah Zawedde, said the donation demonstrates the tangible outcomes of the collaboration between the ministry and dfcu Foundation.

“Today, we are seeing the results of the partnership we signed. This commitment has translated into action,” Zawedde said.

She noted that achieving meaningful digital transformation requires investments in digital infrastructure, secure systems and sustained collaboration between government and the private sector.

“This handover is more than a donation of computers; it’s an investment in Uganda’s future innovators, entrepreneurs and the digital workforce,” she said.

The Ministry of ICT and National Guidance said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to improve digital inclusion by giving learners access to technology and practical digital literacy skills.

Beyond supporting schools, the partnership also contributes to the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM). Under the collaboration, dfcu Bank is providing financial management training to Parish Chiefs and leaders of Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations (SACCOs) to strengthen financial governance at the grassroots level.

The Ministry said the combined interventions in digital education and financial literacy are intended to enhance community development while preparing young Ugandans with skills required to participate in the country’s growing digital economy.

The donation comes as Uganda continues implementing its Digital Transformation Roadmap, which seeks to expand access to information and communication technologies, improve digital literacy and foster innovation to support socio-economic development.
