Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai won the women’s 10km race at the Berliner Morgenpost Great 10K in Germany on Sunday, October 11, 2026, setting a course record and a national record with a time of 29 minutes, 57 seconds.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic 3,000m steeplechase champion improved the previous course record by 40 seconds, according to the race organisers.
Ugandan athlete Peace Chebet also secured third place in the women’s race, according to a post by Ugandan Athletics Track and Field celebrating the country’s performance in Berlin.
Chemutai’s time took her below the 30-minute mark in the road race and marked another milestone in her career as she expands her participation beyond track events.

“I feel really good right now. I knew beforehand that I could run a fast time here today. But I did not expect it to be a course record and a national record for Uganda, which makes me really happy,” Chemutai was quoted as saying by the race organisers.
She also said she intended to return to Berlin in 2027 and target a time below 29 minutes.
The race, held around Charlottenburg Palace and through the Berlin Zoo, attracted about 7,000 runners, according to the organisers.
Chemutai won Olympic gold in the 3,000m steeplechase at the Tokyo 2020 Games, held in 2021, and silver at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The results add to Uganda’s presence in international distance running, with Chemutai and Chebet delivering podium finishes on the roads of the German capital.
