Kampala, Uganda — Preparations for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 have officially gained momentum in Kampala, as Uganda hosts a high-level kickoff workshop bringing together key stakeholders from across the PAMOJA Host Nations.
According to the Local Organising Committee (AFCON 2027 Uganda), a delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) arrived in Uganda on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, ahead of a two-day technical workshop scheduled to run from April 22 to April 23 in Kampala.
The meeting brings together representatives from Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania—the three PAMOJA host nations—alongside government officials, sports ministers, football federation presidents, and senior CAF administrators led by Acting CAF General Secretary Samson Adamu.
“This is not a CAF inspection visit for AFCON 2027 competition and support facilities,” clarified Dr Dennis Mugimba, the chairperson of the communications and signage CHAN/AFCON local organisation sub-committee, stressing that the workshop is focused on coordination and planning rather than evaluation.
The LOC said the engagement marks a critical step in aligning delivery priorities for the next phase of preparations, including infrastructure development, security, procurement, finance, media operations, ticketing, and commercial planning.
“The workshop is a sign of CAF’s commitment to supporting the PAMOJA Host Nations and marks an important step in collective planning and coordination,” the LOC statement read.
Officials emphasised the importance of building strong operational systems ahead of the tournament, which is expected to be one of the continent’s largest sporting events.
The LOC also expressed appreciation to Uganda’s First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, for facilitating and hosting the meeting, describing her support as key to strengthening coordination efforts.
“We thank Maama Janet Museveni for hosting this meeting. Building strong coordination mechanisms and operational readiness across all core areas is critical for successful tournament delivery,” the LOC noted.
Members of the media will be granted access to a mixed zone during the workshop on April 22 and 23, where further updates on AFCON 2027 preparations are expected to be shared.
The Kampala workshop is expected to conclude with a joint update from CAF and the three host nations on progress and delivery milestones as planning for the continental tournament accelerates.
