SSP Nixon Agasirwe Out on Bail After 4 Years on Remand

Court has finally granted bail to former Police Special Operations commander, Nixon Agasirwe, after spending four years on remand for allegedly kidnapping and illegally repatriating Rwandan refugees.

Agasirwe, who has all this while been detained at Makindye Military Barracks, appeared before the General Court Martial based in Makindye, Kampala on Monday, March 7, 2022.

Lt Gen Andrew Gutti, the court chair, granted bail to Agasirwe after satisfying all the bail conditions.

Agasirwe was arrested on October 24, 2017.

He was first charged before the General Court Martial on February 13, 2018 with unlawful possession of ammunition and later in August the same year with aiding and abetting kidnapping.

His co-accused including; Gen Edward Kale Kayihura, the former Inspector General of Police, Col. Ndahura Atwooki, Herbert Muhangi, Patrick Muramira, Jonas Ayebaza, Joel Aguma, James Magada, Benon Atwebembeire, Abel Tumukunde and Faisal Katende Amon Kwarisiima, all police officers had already been released on bail.

The state alleges that on October 25, 2013 at Kamengo in Mpigi District on Masaka Road, the suspects while in unlawful possession of firearms and grenades, ordinarily a monopoly of defence forces conveyed Lt Mutabaazi and Jackson Karemeera without their consent to the Republic of Rwanda.
