Police has stopped Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine from holding any more music concerts, the singer revealed on Wednesday.
Bobi Wine told reporters at the Naguru Police headquarters where he camped the entire day in order to secure permission for a concert in Nakawuka, that he was told the Police chief, Okoth Ochola had banned his concerts.
At Naguru, he was escorted by one of the concert promoters.
“We had come here to express our discontent towards Police for stopping our events yet we actually fulfilled all the requirements,” he said.
“Why is it that some artistes are holding shows at these same venues that we are being barred from? So, we say – this is unfair and it should end,” the musician and opposition politician said.
He criticized the Police for taking part in partisan politics and suppressing individual rights. No explanation was given to him by the Police chief as to why he was being stopped from organizing any more concerts, the Kyadondo East MP said.
Bobi Wine who waited at Naguru for over 6 hours on Wednesday in the hopes of meeting with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Okoth Ochola only managed to speak with Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Asuman Mugyenyi who is the Director of Operations later in the evening.
“AIGP Mugyenyi couldn’t respond to our queries. He only told me that this matter is beyond him and that we need to get in touch with his Seniors,” Bobi Wine told journalists outside the Police headquarters.
Meanwhile, a woman who had organized the Nakawuka concert scheduled for today where Bobi Wine was to headline collapsed while at Naguru after learning that the event had been cancelled.
The singer is considering taking legal action against the conduct of the Police.
This comes just days after Police in Gulu stopped a concert at Smiling Panda pub in Gulu town where Bobi Wine was set to perform on Sunday December 2.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson said that the organizers had flouted the procedures stipulated in the Public Order Management Act.
He also added that the management of Smiling Panda were not in the know of the event because the organizers didn’t give them any document that justified its legality.
Just last month, Bobi Wine was forced to move his Kyarenga concert, the first music show he performed at since his detention in August, to his Busabala One Love beach after Police and authorities at Namboole stadium denied him permission to use the venue.
