Kenyan Vice President, William Ruto is scheduled to attend the upcoming Youth Achievers Awards gala night slated for this Saturday at Kampala Serena Hotel.

Organizers of the Awards, Reach a Hand Uganda (RAHU), youth-led organization that advocates for sexual reproductive health, confirmed this with only three days to the event.

William Ruto will deliver the keynote address at the 2018 edition of the Young Achievers Awards gala night which is expected to attract delegates including nominees, youth and government officials among other invited guests.

Kenya’s deputy President will also be the recipient of the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award.

He joins other prominent East Africans who have been recipients of this Award, including Presidents Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and Paul Kagame of republic of Rwanda, entrepreneur and industrialist Late James Mulwana, educationist Prof Senteza Kajubi, social justice campaigner, Noelina Kareeba, and Tanzanian Businessman and philanthropist Ali Mufuruki.

The Award ceremony will run under the theme “Rewarding Innovation And Excellence Recognizing of Young Entrepreneurs and Inspiring the Next Generation of world Leaders”.

The Awards now in their 7th year, will recognize young Ugandans who are doing exceptional work in innovation, agriculture, media personalities, social entrepreneurs, fashion designers, film makers and photographers.

Among the nominees is singers Eddy Kenzo and Rema Namakula, Uganda’s gold medalist in the recent Commonwealth Olympic games, Joshua Cheptegei and inventor of ‘Matibabu’, Brian Gitta who won a continental award for his outstanding innovation in the diagnosis of malaria.

Abaas Mpindi, the founder of Media Challenge Initiative who recently got a mention from former U.S President, Barack Obama during the Nelson Mandela 100th anniversary lecture, as being among young people causing positive impact on the continent, is also nominated for the Award.
