The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has officially announced the 2025 edition of the Accountancy Service Awards (ASA), its flagship annual celebration recognising individuals and organisations that have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of the accountancy profession in Uganda and beyond.

For the first time in its 10-year history, the awards will be held as a stand-alone gala event on 3 October 2025 at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel, separate from the ICPAU Annual Seminar.

Speaking at the launch held at Africana Hotel in Kampala on Wednesday, CPA Sandra Batte, Chair of the Accountancy Service Awards Committee, said the awards have grown into a respected platform for honouring professionalism and inspiring excellence.

“Over the past decade, the ASA Awards have become a robust model for recognising and rewarding distinction in the profession. They honour those who embody professionalism, ethics, and innovation while contributing to the country’s economic and social development,” Batte said.

Eight Award Categories

The 2025 ASA will recognise excellence in eight categories: ICPAU Gold Service Award, CPA of the Year Award, Young Accountant of the Year Award, Woman Accountant of the Year Award, Finance Team of the Year Award, Accounting Firm of the Year Award, Institutional Partner of the Year Award and Unique Humanitarian Award.

CPA Lydia Tusiime, ICPAU’s Manager of Business Development, emphasised that the awards are open to nominations from ICPAU members, students, and the public. “These awards spotlight exceptional service, innovation, ethical leadership, and tangible impact in the profession. Whether it’s a veteran CPA, a rising young star, or a high-performing finance team, we want to celebrate them,” she said. “Nominations are open until 28 September 2025 through our website.”

Reflecting on last year’s winners, the Institute noted that CPA Mary Theresa Kiggundu was crowned Woman Accountant of the Year, CPA Joseph Osako named Young Accountant of the Year, and CPA Keto Kayemba received the prestigious Gold Service Award. The Unique Humanitarian Award went to Pastor Gary Skinner for his extraordinary contributions to humanity in Uganda.

Institutional winners included the Uganda National Oil Company (Institutional Partner of the Year) and CPA Uganda – Ankole Region (Regional Members Network of the Year).

Corporate Support for Professionalism

Centenary Bank, a long-time sponsor of the ASA, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the accountancy profession. Immaculate Ngulumi, the bank’s Chief Manager for Branding and Marketing, praised accountants for their vital role in business growth and economic stability.

“Out of over 4,000 accountants in the country, being singled out for recognition is no small achievement,” Ngulumi said. “Accountants sustain trust in business, uphold ethical bookkeeping, and ensure financial integrity across all sectors. We will continue to support these awards because we believe in the value of professionalism.”

She also called on the public to take part in the nomination process. “We urge everyone to nominate accountants who truly demonstrate accountability and ethical practice — values our country needs now more than ever.”

Launched in September 2015, the ASA Awards are celebrating their 10th anniversary this year. ICPAU says the new stand-alone format will allow for a more elaborate celebration, with an evening of networking, entertainment, and recognition for Uganda’s finest accounting professionals.

Nominations close on 28 September 2025, and the winners will be unveiled on 3 October 2025.
