The Ministry of Health has strongly dismissed claims of a COVID-19 resurgence in Uganda, reaffirming that the country’s public health situation remains stable and fully under control since the major outbreak three years ago.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry clarified that recent media reports and viral messages circulating online are based on old video clips and content being re-shared by individuals with the intent to mislead the public.
“There is no resurgence of COVID-19 in Uganda, and the national situation is stable,” said Dr. Charles Olaro, Director General of Health Services. “The Ministry continues to maintain strong surveillance and response systems capable of detecting and swiftly addressing any public health threats.”
The Ministry emphasised that it remains vigilant and is closely monitoring global developments concerning new COVID-19 variants. It is also working collaboratively with local and international health partners to safeguard public health.
Ugandans have been advised to continue observing good hygiene practices, such as handwashing with soap and water or the use of alcohol-based sanitisers, and to seek medical attention if they experience flu-like symptoms.
The Ministry urged the public to rely only on verified information from official government sources and avoid spreading unverified messages that may cause unnecessary alarm.
