The State Minister of Energy and Mineral Development (Minerals), Hon. Phiona Nyamutoro, has urged student leaders to embrace and promote patriotism within their institutions of higher learning.
Speaking at the official opening ceremony of a two-week Patriotism Training Programme at Nkumba University, Hon. Nyamutoro encouraged the leaders to inspire their peers by exemplifying love and dedication to their country.
Representing the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, Hon. Nyamutoro addressed a gathering of over 800 student leaders from various institutions across Uganda.
She emphasised the importance of being proud of their Ugandan identity and heritage.
“Uganda is all that we have. While you can change many aspects of your life, being Ugandan is a constant. Let’s not take that for granted,” she said.
The minister highlighted patriotism as a foundation for fostering unity and responsibility among Uganda’s youth, stressing the crucial role student leaders play in shaping the nation’s future.
“Among you are future leaders,” she noted. “Utilise this opportunity to its fullest and return to your communities to inspire and impact many other young people.”
The training, which began on January 3, 2025, is organised by the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps (NSPC). It aims to equip student leaders with essential skills and knowledge to become informed and patriotic citizens who contribute to Uganda’s development.
This initiative emphasises civic responsibility and encourages young leaders to take an active role in building a better future for Uganda.
Through interactive sessions, the program seeks to instil a strong sense of national pride and unity, laying the groundwork for a generation of leaders committed to uplifting their country.
The Patriotism Training Programme is part of NSPC’s ongoing efforts to nurture a culture of patriotism and national unity among Ugandans, especially the youth, as they prepare to take up leadership roles in the future.
