The Professional Standards Unit (PSU) has arrested 3 police officers and a crime preventer attached to Kilimanyaga police post in Wakiso district for torturing a 50 year old man.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday, PSU spokesperson, Vincent Ssekate said Anena Beatrice, Opito Alex, Nuwamanya Nelson (police officers) and Katerega Joseph, a crime preventer are in police detention over torture of Tibesigwa Wilson.
“It is alleged that on August 25th ,2017, while in his sugar plantation, he was arrested by police officers who tortured him injuring his left eye,” Ssekate said.
“Despite the fact that the eye was bleeding, he was detained and released the following day after his relatives gave a bribe of shs.100,000 for police bond.”
According to Ssekate, Tibesigwa was later admitted at Mengo hospital from where his eye was removed.
He said that the accused will be arraigned in court to answer charges of torture. He warned that police will not tolerate any officer who tarnishes its name.
