Ugandan long-distance runner Martin Naibei Musau won the 2026 Lisbon Marathon in Portugal on Saturday, October 10, setting a personal best of two hours, eight minutes and seven seconds.
Musau crossed the finish line ahead of Kenya’s Gilbert Kipkurui Korir, who finished second in 2:08:33, and compatriot Stephen Chebon Kipkech, who took third place in 2:08:35.
The victory improved Musau’s previous marathon personal best of 2:08:42, recorded in Hamburg, Germany, in April 2024, by 35 seconds.
According to Portuguese media reports, the 28-year-old Ugandan succeeded Kenya’s Zablon Chumba, who won the previous edition of the Lisbon Marathon.
The men’s race was contested over the standard marathon distance of 42.195 kilometres, starting in Cascais, passing through Oeiras and finishing at Terreiro do Paço in Lisbon.
Musau’s victory places him ahead of two Kenyan runners in a race that saw all three podium finishers complete the course in under two hours and nine minutes.
The result adds to Musau’s record in international road running. World Athletics lists the Ugandan as a marathon specialist whose previous personal best was established in 2024.
In the women’s race, Ethiopia’s Meskerem Mamo Hayile won in 2:28:04, seven seconds ahead of compatriot Tejitu Siyum Alamayehu, who finished second in 2:28:11. Bashanke Imoshe Bilo completed an Ethiopian sweep of the podium in 2:28:15.
The 2026 Lisbon Marathon was the 13th edition of the event, which brought together elite distance runners from several countries.
