Uganda Christian University (UCU) School of Law has won two national inter-university moot court competitions held in Uganda, taking titles in privacy rights and equal opportunities within two days.

UCU won the national rounds of the Unwanted Witness Privacy Moot Court Competition, organised by Unwanted Witness, and the inaugural National Inter-University Access to Justice, Discrimination and Equal Opportunities Moot Court Competition, organised by the Equal Opportunities Commission in partnership with the International Development Law Organisation (IDLO).

At the Privacy Moot, UCU was represented by oralists Deborah Mulungi Namiwanda and Nalukwago Evelyn Vanessa, supported by Jeremiah Kalyesubula, Mugisha Timothy Brighton, Rukidi Jorum, Mawanda Irene Kateme, Rachel Nabiranda, Kukunda Noella, Alicia Mutebi and Monge Jovan Caleb.

Mulungi Namiwanda was also named Best Female Oralist.

The team will represent Uganda at the regional rounds of the Privacy Moot on September 29, 2026, at UCU’s main campus in Mukono. National champions from Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania will also compete at the regional stage.

In the access to justice and equal opportunities competition, UCU defeated the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) in the final held at the Supreme Court of Uganda on September 24.

The UCU team comprised Shakira Nali, an LLB third-year student, and Rebecca Wambaka, an LLB second-year student, as oralists, with Tracy Nabandi and Kaye Brinon serving as researchers.

UCU swept all three awards in the competition, winning Best Overall Team, Best Memorial and Best Orator, with Wambaka taking the individual orator award.

The final was heard by Supreme Court Justices Prof. Lillian Tibatemwa-Ekirikubinza, Christopher Madrama and Mike Chibita.

The two victories add to UCU School of Law’s recent performances in national moot court competitions, where law students compete through legal research, written submissions and oral advocacy on issues involving constitutional rights, privacy, equality and access to justice.
