Team Uganda Wins Bronze As EAC Military Games Close

UPDF emerged second runner-up in men’s and women’s cross-country race and won two silver medals as the 11th edition of the EAC Military Games drew to a close on 02 Sept 2017.

‘’Mission Uganda’’ Athletics Team scooped  Bronze in the 10 – Kilometre Cross Country race for Men and Women.

UPDF’s Cpl Cheptegei Rebecca was awarded Silver for emerging second in the women’s race close to Kenya’s gold medallist, Cpl Mercy Njoroge while L/Cpl Chepkorom Ezekiel scooped Silver in the Men’s 10 Km Cross Country race.

Uganda, in third position won Bronze, Kenya in second position took Silver while Tanzania – the first – was awarded Gold. Others who participated include Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi.

Speaking on behalf of the Burundi Chief of Defence Forces, Brig-General Nahimana Salvator who is Burundi’s Defence Liaison Officer and Chair of Defence Liaison Officers of the EAC Secretariat, congratulated EAC member states and organisers of the military games on a successful event.

‘’The competition has brought the East African Community people closer and showed the spirit of togetherness among the participating countries through sports,”  he said.

It is the first time UPDF wins a medal in the EAC Military Games.
