Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) killed 17 Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels and captured 13 others Tuesday after they raided villages in Ntoroko District in western Uganda.
“By the close of this evening (Tuesday), fights in areas of Bweramure, Kyapa Kayanja, Ntoroko district, yielded the following. ADF killed 17, Captured 13, Guns captured 16, IEDS 04, 04 Phones,” said UPDF Deputy Spokesperson, Col Deo Akiiki.
According to Col Akiiki, one UPDF soldier was killed and another wounded.
The army said the rebels crossed River Semuliki into Kyanja on the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The rebels who numbered between 30 and 40 attacked the villages forcing residents to flee their homes in Kibuuku, Butungama and Bweramule sub-counties and seek shelter.
DR Congo and UPDF forces launched a joint offensive against the ADF in November 2021 under operation Shujaa which has since weakened the Islamic State group-affiliated militia.
