President Yoweri Museveni has urged Ugandans to elect more effective party-aligned parliamentary representatives.

He made the remarks on Friday during impromptu stops in Jinja, Nkonko Njeru, Mukono Town, and Kalerwe Market as he returned from officiating the third graduation ceremony of the National Defence College – Uganda (NDC-U) in Buikwe District.

“It was good to connect with our people, and I promised to return and share the message of socio-economic transformation with them,” he said on X. “I asked them to send better representatives to Parliament because the ones they send do not help them much and they do not wear clothes with the right colour.”

The tweet, which has since sparked conversation online, blends Museveni’s trademark outreach with a political undertone, hinting at dissatisfaction with certain Members of Parliament and appealing for stronger support for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

His surprise interaction with communities underscored a common theme in his recent engagements: reconnecting with grassroots populations and reiterating the NRM’s message of socio-economic transformation.

At the market stops, Museveni emphasised self-reliance and the need for leaders who truly understand and advocate for the interests of their constituents—an apparent reference to MPs he claims are not aligned with transformative goals.

The President’s visit to Buikwe district and his public critique of certain legislators signal the NRM’s early positioning ahead of the 2026 general elections, with calls for voters to prioritise representatives who align with the party’s developmental and ideological direction.

On my way back from the National Defence College, I made several stops to greet the people of Jinja, Nkonko Njeru, Mukono Town, and Kalerwe Market. It was good to connect with our people, and I promised to return and share the message of socio-economic transformation with them.… pic.twitter.com/8doQbKrjDe
