President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the 2026 general elections, has called on Ugandans to once again rally behind the ruling party, underscoring its long-standing commitment to equality, inclusivity and national development.

Speaking on Tuesday at a campaign rally held at Wabinyonyi Playground in Nakasongola District, President Museveni said the NRM remains the political vehicle best placed to guarantee equal opportunities for all Ugandans.

“Please vote for the NRM as you have always done, because the NRM believes in equality,” President Museveni told the gathering.

Accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, the President praised the growth and transformation of the Abaruuli community, attributing it to what he described as guided and stable leadership.

“Whenever I come to Nakasongola, I feel happy and grateful to God for the progress here. When I first came, the population was only 50,000. Today it is over 226,000. This is because of the guided leadership of the NRM. Our children grow up and do not die from preventable diseases,” he said.

The President outlined ongoing and planned infrastructure projects aimed at boosting connectivity and economic activity in the district, including the Kikusa–Kazwama–Kalungi–Nakasongola road and the Rwampanga–Amolatar road. He also noted a reduction in land-related conflicts.

On social services, President Museveni highlighted improvements in education and healthcare while acknowledging gaps that the government plans to address.

He said the district currently has 114 government primary schools and 10 government secondary schools, alongside a hospital, two Health Centre IVs and nine Health Centre IIIs. Plans are underway to upgrade several lower-level health facilities and construct new HCIIIs in Migyera and Mayirikiti.

Turning to job creation, the President emphasised four key sectors—commercial agriculture, manufacturing and artisanship, services, and ICT—as engines of employment, supported by industrial hubs across the country. He reiterated the importance of the Four-Acre Model as a pathway to household wealth creation.

“With proper planning, one acre can be for coffee, one for fruits, one for pasture and one for food crops. Families can also earn from backyard poultry, piggery for non-Muslims, and fish farming near wetlands,” he said, while cautioning against overuse of natural resources.

President Museveni concluded by reaffirming the NRM’s commitment to inclusive development. “The Abaruuli today are able to develop themselves. We shall continue working to ensure every community across Uganda benefits from development and equality,” he said.

Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, in her remarks, applauded the people of Nakasongola for their continued support of the NRM and urged them to turn out in large numbers for the January 15, 2026, general elections.

“Nobody should stay at home. Your vote is your brick in building Uganda. We are shaping Uganda for the future, and every citizen owes it to themselves and their families to vote,” she said.

The Speaker of Parliament and NRM Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, thanked the President for the development initiatives in the district, noting that improved infrastructure—particularly roads to key economic sites such as Zengebe Landing Site—would further boost local businesses.

Nakasongola District NRM Chairperson, Mr Christopher Nkoyoyo, described the President’s visit as a morale booster for residents, while also raising concerns over persistent land wrangles. He highlighted progress under the Parish Development Model (PDM), noting that Shs24.2 billion has been disbursed to 68 parish SACCOs, benefiting over 20,500 households.

Nkoyoyo also reported gains under the Emyooga programme, improved access to clean water, expanded electricity coverage, and investments in irrigation infrastructure, while calling for continued support of government programmes to ensure sustainable development.

The rally was attended by NRM Central Executive Committee members, Members of Parliament, religious and cultural leaders, and thousands of supporters from across the district.
