President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni attended a Thanksgiving service held in memory of the late Yoweri and Esta Rutamwebwa, celebrating their enduring legacy. The event took place at Mutanoga Dairy Farm in Rushere, Kiruhura District.

In his address, President Museveni commended the couple for their steadfast faith and lifelong commitment to uplifting their community, both spiritually and materially. He lauded their transformative journey of Christian conversion, noting its significance in a region deeply rooted in traditional customs.

“The Banyankore and Bahororo are strongly grounded in culture, but Yoweri and Esta successfully combined that heritage with Christian values,” the President remarked.

He explained how this spiritual shift enriched their lives and inspired them to settle and actively contribute to the socio-economic development of their community.

President Museveni also shared a personal anecdote about meeting the Rutamwebwa family for the first time when he was just 14 years old.

He spoke warmly of their dedication to hard work and progress, especially in the agricultural sector. Emphasising the importance of modern farming methods, he urged the public to emulate their example.

“I encourage everyone to adopt improved agricultural practices such as zero grazing and proper land management,” he said.

He elaborated on practical farming tips, explaining that a single square mile of cleared land can support up to 300 grazing cows. He added that one acre of land planted with grass for silage can sustain 12 indigenous cows or 8 Friesian cows.

As a testament to the Rutamwebwas’ lasting influence, their children announced plans to establish Bishop’s Girls School in their memory. In support of this noble cause, President Museveni pledged a donation of UGX 100 million and a school bus, underscoring his commitment to promoting girl-child education.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr. Emmanuel Tayebwa expressed heartfelt gratitude for the profound legacy left by their parents. “Their lives continue to shape our future and inspire us to achieve even greater things,” he said.

The Thanksgiving service was attended by government ministers, Members of Parliament, and several dignitaries who joined in honouring the life and impact of Yoweri and Esta Rutamwebwa.
