President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has bid farewell to India’s outgoing High Commissioner to Uganda, Upender Singh Rawat, thanking him for his service and contribution to strengthening relations between the two countries.
President Museveni made the remarks on Monday during a farewell call by Rawat at State House, Entebbe.
“Thank you for your service in Uganda, and I wish you good luck in your next tour of duty,” President Museveni told the outgoing envoy.
Rawat was accompanied by Yogender Singh, Second Secretary at the Indian High Commission in Uganda, and Ambassador Henry Mayega, Head of International Economic Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Rawat has served as India’s High Commissioner to Uganda for three years and three months. During the farewell meeting, he said his mission had worked closely with the Ugandan Government to advance cooperation in several sectors and deepen bilateral relations.
Among the initiatives highlighted was the establishment and operationalisation of the first overseas campus of India’s National Forensic Sciences University in Jinja.
The campus was established to provide training in forensic science and security-related disciplines, with the initiative aimed at strengthening cooperation between Uganda and India in education, scientific research and security.
Rawat also highlighted cooperation with Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bank of Uganda on the National Payment Switch, a digital financial initiative intended to improve secure cross-border remittance services and facilitate greater integration of the Ugandan diaspora into the national financial system.
Rawat is expected to return to India, where he will report to the headquarters before taking up his next diplomatic assignment.
