President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi as the new Deputy Chief Justice of Uganda, according to a statement issued by the Presidential Press Unit (PPU).
The President also appointed Her Worship Agnes Alum as the new Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.
In the statement, the PPU said the appointment of Justice Kazibwe has already been forwarded to Parliament for approval in line with constitutional requirements.
“The Presidential Press Unit would like to inform the general public that the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has appointed Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi as the new Deputy Chief Justice,” the statement read.
It added: “President Museveni has also appointed Her Worship Agnes Alum as the new Chief Registrar.”
The statement further noted that the name of the newly appointed Deputy Chief Justice has been submitted to Parliament and is awaiting vetting and approval.
Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi is expected to deputize Chief Justice Flavian Zeija in overseeing the administration and supervision of the Judiciary.
The appointments come at a time when the Judiciary continues implementing reforms aimed at improving efficiency, case management and access to justice across the country.
