According to prosecution, the accused conspired and diverted over UGX3.4B meant for war loss compensation by the government of Uganda to Buyaka Growers Cooperative Society for their personal use.

They have been remanded until July 9, 2024.

Early in the morning, a number of Patriotic League of Uganda -PLU supporters led by PLU Secretary General David Kabanda, the Kasambya County Member of Parliament, camped at the court premises donning t-shirts with the image of Mawanda and General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Mawanda is the Chairperson of the Disciplinary Committee in PLU.

MP Akamba is co-jointly charged with MPs Cissy Namujju and Yusuf Mutembuli who are on remand in Luzira Prison on corruption charges and await to apply for bail in the High Court.
