Mityana municipality Member of Parliament, Francis Zaake is hospitalized at Rubaga hospital following his alleged torture by security agencies after he was arrested in Arua on Monday.
On Monday when violence broke out in Arua district on the last day of campaigning, reports emerged that MP Zaake had been arrested. However, there has been little information since then regarding his whereabouts, until today.
Photos had been circulated on social media showing Zaake with a bruised face and injured hands.
Today, some of the Members of Parliament who visited Zaake in hospital revealed that he is unconscious of his surroundings and is on oxygen support.
Makindye East MP, Allan Ssewanyana was the first person to visit Zaake at Rubaga hospital in Kampala. Ssewanyana said the legislator had been “dumped” at the hospital on Thursday night but couldn’t state who exactly did.
“He was dumped here last night. He couldn’t see me, he doesn’t know what is happening around him. His whole body is full of bruises,” Ssewanyana told journalists.
Later, the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Betty Aol, Kampala Mayor, Erias Lukwago, Kampala Central MP, Muhammad Nsereko and other politicians visited the ailing legislator.
“I have visited Hon Francis Zaake where he is currently admitted at Rubaga hospital. He can’t speak, he can’t stand on his own, he can’t feed himself,he is clearly on life support,” MP Nsereko posted.
“He is visibly in too much pain and can hardly understand what’s going on around him,” he added.
Denis Angasa, one of the medics treating Zaake said that he is in critical condition and that the medics are doing whatever they can to save his life.
