Five days after leader of the Boda Boda 2010 and Rubaga Division NRM Chairman, Abdullah Kitatta was arrested by the military, his wife has demanded for his release or that he be produced in court.
Sumayiya Ninsima, the wife to Kitatta has through her lawyer Joseph Kiryowa dragged the Inspector General of police, Gen Kale Kayihura and the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen David Muhoozi to High Court seeking that the court compels them to produce Kitatta. She accuses the two and the government of holding Kitatta incommunicado.
Ninsima argues that she worries about the state in which her husband is, given that she has no knowledge of his whereabouts.
She has asked court to compel security agencies to produce her husband him in court so that he can formally be charged in line with his constitutional rights as a suspect.
In her application, she says that she came to know about Kitatta’s arrest in the press. Although she later learnt from the UPDF Deputy Spokesperson, Lt Col Deo Akiiki that Kitatta was detained at Kireka police barracks, authorities there told her that he (Kitatta) was not there.
Instead, she says, they told her to inquire from Mbuya military barracks.
Kitatta was arrested over the weekend in Wakaliga together with several other members of Boda Boda 2010, a group accused of perpetrating criminal activities. He is being investigated for alleged involvement in the brutal murder of Francis Ekalungar, a former Accountant with Case Hospital who was killed weeks ago.
His wife says that when she went to CMI headquarters in Mbuya as advised at Kireka, she still never got to see her husband. There, she was told to first write to the CDF, CMI boss and the Director UPDF Legal Affairs seeking appointment regarding the issue.
