Leader of the rogue Boda Boda 2010 group accused of perpetrating criminality in Kampala, Abdallah Kitatta has appeared before the military court on Friday.
Kitatta appeared before the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) Unit Disciplinary Court (UDC) at Mbuya army barracks on Friday together with 12 other suspects including police bodyguard, Sowali Ngobi with whom he had been remanded to Makindye Military Police.
This disqualifies earlier reports in some sections of the media which had speculated that Kitatta had been secretly released from Kigo prison where the military court had reportedly previously remanded him.
However, SoftPower News understands that Kitatta has been held at Makindye military police not Kigo prison as previously stated.
A credible military source confirmed that Kitatta and his police guard were remanded at Makindye Military Police.
“That is normal, for example Joel Aguma was remanded in Makindye while Nixon was remanded in luzira,” the source told this website.
Kitatta and 12 others face charges of unlawful possession of military stores and failure to protect war materials. The army said recently that the suspects were found with two pistols and a submachine gun.
They first appeared before the military court on January 29, a week after they had been arrested in operations conducted by military intelligence.
Meanwhile, soldiers guarding the military barracks at Mbuya stopped several journalists who had turned up to cover covering the court proceedings on Friday morning from accessing the premises.
Kitatta and his co-accused are suspected of killing former Case Hospital accountant, Francis Ekalungar who was kidnapped, brutally killed and his body burnt beyond recognition last month.
The other suspects are; Sowali Ngobi, Amon Twinomujuni, Joel Kibirige, Matia Ssenfuka, Hassan Ssebata, Johnson Kayondo, Hassan Ssengoba, Sunday Ssemogerere, John Ssebandeke, Hussein Mugema, Fred Bwanika and Ibrahim Ssekaja.
