KAMPALA — Ugandan artist Joshua Baraka on Saturday spearheaded a major community outreach in Kawempe-Kazo, with Pearl Bank stepping in to support efforts aimed at feeding at least 1,000 vulnerable families.

Dubbed “Just Believe Day”, the initiative targeted residents of Bwaise–Kawempe, combining humanitarian relief with youth empowerment activities in one of Kampala’s most densely populated communities.

Organisers said the outreach was designed to address immediate socio-economic challenges while also creating pathways for long-term opportunity, particularly for young people.

Through the initiative, families received essential relief packages to help ease daily living pressures, while additional programmes focused on skills development and economic empowerment.

Pearl Bank’s Head of Marketing and Communications, Priscilla Akora (4th R), handing over a dummy cheque worth UGX 5 million to Joshua Baraka (4th L), a Ugandan celebrated artist, joined by other Pearl Bank staff. The bank’s contribution aims to support the feeding of 1000 families in Kawempe, in line with the bank’s Humanitarian pillar, which is among Pearl Bank’s Corporate Social Investment agenda.

Pearl Bank’s Head of Marketing and Communications, Priscilla Akora, said the bank’s involvement reflects its commitment to uplifting communities.

“Just Believe Day” is a worthwhile intervention that blends social impact, youth empowerment, and community engagement in a way that aligns with broader national development aspirations and our purpose of fostering prosperity for Ugandans,” Akora said.

She added that humanitarian support remains a key pillar of the bank’s corporate social investment strategy. “We are pleased to join this noble cause of creating impact in communities where we have a footprint,” she noted.

Baraka, who conceptualised the initiative, welcomed the bank’s support and emphasised the importance of partnerships in driving community change. “This kind of support makes a real difference for people who need it most,” he said, while also congratulating the bank on its new headquarters along Roscoe Road in Kampala.

Beyond relief distribution, the event also featured a capacity-building component delivered in partnership with AUMEX. Young creatives received training in areas such as the business of music, financial literacy, and intellectual property rights.

Organisers said the training aims to equip participants with practical skills to generate sustainable income and actively participate in Uganda’s growing creative economy.

The Just Believe Day outreach highlights a growing trend of collaborations between the private sector and creative industry players to tackle social challenges while empowering communities.
