Johannesburg — Uganda’s anti-corruption oversight institutions have been recognised on the continental stage after winning the Impactful Collaboration Award for their joint efforts in strengthening accountability and governance systems.
The Inspectorate of Government (IGG) and the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) received the award from the African Organisation of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E) and the Eastern Africa Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (EAAACA) during the Anti-Corruption Conference 2026 held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The recognition highlights what organisers described as an effective partnership that has redefined cooperation between Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) and Anti-Corruption Agencies (ACAs), moving beyond routine compliance to innovation and practical impact in governance reforms.
In a statement shared online, the IGG said the collaboration has become a regional benchmark for accountability systems.
“The award was presented in recognition of the two institutions’ effective collaboration that has set a new benchmark for excellence in governance,” the statement noted.
Officials said the Uganda-developed collaboration framework has influenced regional thinking and contributed to shaping the SAI–ACA cooperation model across Eastern Africa.
The model is now being used as a reference point for countries seeking to strengthen transparency, improve oversight, and enhance the fight against corruption.
The partnership also informed a joint study conducted between 2023 and 2024 by AFROSAI-E and EAAACA across six East African countries.
The study examined how oversight institutions can design and sustain effective collaboration frameworks to improve accountability outcomes.
Authorities said the findings continue to guide reforms aimed at improving coordination between audit and anti-corruption agencies across the region.
The award is being hailed as a major milestone for Uganda’s governance sector, reinforcing its growing influence in shaping anti-corruption best practices in Africa.
