When Wu Yiming, better known as Handsome Jimmy, appeared on the March 22, 2026, episode of HelloMr. Right, it was clear he was no stranger to Uganda. He arrived in Kampala 15 years ago to sell software. Today, he speaks Luganda, enjoys a morning Rolex, and has become a familiar face on local television.
Jimmy wasn’t chasing fame or love on camera. Yet his spontaneous connection with a contestant named Shamim struck a chord with viewers, many of whom realised they already knew him, just not by name.
Behind the spotlight, Wu runs IGold Software, providing point-of-sale and business systems to businesses across the city. His journey into Luganda began with simple phrases like “webale nnyo,” gradually growing into conversations, friendships, and a deeper cultural connection.
The nickname “Handsome Jimmy” emerged organically online, reflecting his warmth and relatable personality. By the time he joined Hello Mr Right, he already had a quiet following.
Despite growing attention, little has changed. He continues to run his business and make music out of passion, not profit, with songs like Asiliziza and collaborations with Kalifah AgaNaga.
“I love Uganda because the people are kind and welcoming,” he says.
Fifteen years on, Wu Yiming is no longer just a visitor. He came for business, but found something more lasting: a sense of belonging.
Brand Manager for V&A Uganda’s Favourite Sherry, Rochart Kaweesa, says the show works because it allows “genuine connection to happen.” Jimmy seemed to embody that without trying.
