Ghanaian entrepreneur Basil David Anthony, popularly known as CEOExtraO, is expanding his flooring and wall-finishing company, Modern Floors & Walls, into East Africa, with Kenya as the first market.
The expansion follows the company’s growth across African, European and Middle Eastern markets and Anthony’s previous engagement with the Ugandan construction sector.
Anthony showcased Modern Floors & Walls’ products at the Uganda Buildcon International Exhibition held at the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) Exhibition Hall in Kampala in 2024, where he also engaged Ugandan media on sustainable construction and interior finishing solutions.
Modern Floors & Walls was established in Ghana in 2018. The company deals in flooring and wall-finishing products for residential and commercial developments.
In December 2022, Anthony incorporated Basil Modern Floors and Walls L.L.C in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, which the company says serves as a base for international procurement, sourcing and manufacturer relations.
Anthony said the move into East Africa is part of the company’s wider strategy to build operations beyond its original Ghanaian market.
“We started by building the business in Ghana, but the vision was never limited to one market,” Anthony said.
“Establishing our company in Dubai gave us an international platform to strengthen procurement and sourcing. Expanding into East Africa is the natural progression of that long-term trade strategy.”
The company plans to initially target Kenya before expanding its regional operations.
Its East African portfolio includes stone-plastic composite (SPC) waterproof flooring, SPC wall panels and carpet tiles designed for residential, commercial and office applications.
The company says the products are intended for developers, contractors, architects and property owners seeking durable and modern interior finishing materials.
Anthony said the regional expansion will rely on local partnerships rather than operating solely as an import and distribution business.
“Africa is a massive market, but you cannot build a sustainable African enterprise without localising,” he said.
“Our goal in East Africa is to build proper operations, partner with regional installers and distributors, create local employment opportunities, and develop long-term economic partnerships.”
Focus on Youth and Entrepreneurship
Beyond his business activities, Anthony has been involved in youth mentorship and entrepreneurship initiatives across Africa.
He has promoted programmes including the Search for Africa’s Next Young Millionaire Under 40 and has authored Dream Bigger, a book focused on entrepreneurship and personal development.
He has also received recognition for his mentorship activities, including the Mentor of the Youth award at the Ghana Philanthropy Awards.
Anthony’s expansion into East Africa comes as African businesses increasingly seek opportunities outside their home markets through regional trade, investment and cross-border partnerships.
For Modern Floors & Walls, the immediate focus is establishing a presence in Kenya while using its existing international supply network to serve customers in the wider East African market.
