Uganda on Tuesday emerged the overall winners of the inaugural Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPPCO) games held at UCU in Mukono.
In football, Uganda police beat their Rwandan counterparts to the gong and won gold .
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Inspector General of Uganda Police Force, Gen Kale Kayihura applauded the Ugandan team for exhibiting skills as well as the spirit of sportsmanship during the games.
“Those skills in marksmanship should be put to good use to stop criminals,” the IGP urged participants.
Gen Kayihura attributed the performance to spotting and nurturing of talent by the force.
“As directed by the president to all forces, we recruit and invest in talent,” said Gen Kale set, the Inspector to take over as EAPCCO Chairperson for the next 2 years.
He said that the goal of EAPCCO games was to foster cooperation, adding that he expects the next edition of EAPCCO games to be more colourful.
Seven countries out of the 13 EAPCCO member states participated in the games held at UCU in Mukono.
The games were part of preparations for EAPCCO’s 19th annual general meeting slated for September 17 in Kampala.
The theme of the games was ‘promoting community policing and regional cooperation through sports.’
Uganda won in almost all sports disciplines.
