The Supreme Court has released David Chandi Jamwa, the former Managing Director for National Social Security Fund on bail.
Jamwa’s bail was cancelled in January when the Court of Appeal quashed his application challenging the 12- year sentence on charges of causing financial loss to government given by the Anti Corruption court in 2010.
He early this year applied for bail in the Supreme Court following his appeal.
Today, Justice Stella Amoko Arach of the Supreme Court ruled that Jamwa’s health condition was deteriorating and needs medical attention that cannot be given to him in prison.
In his bail application,Jamwa had stated that he is suffering from hypertension and obesity that require him to be subjected to a balanced diet and medication that can only be given to him while out of prison.
The Supreme court judge also noted Jamwa’s appeal hearing might delay due to other cases filed earlier adding that it would be wise to have him released on bail.
The judge asked Jamwa to pay a cash bail of ten million shillings and surrender his passport.
“You must promise not to renew the passport that expires in October 2018,” the judge said.
She also asked each of the five sureties to deposit a sum of five hundred million shillings bail non cash whereas his wife was asked to deposit her title for a property worth shs 2.5 billion with the court registrar.
Jamwa has also been asked to report to the court registrar every last working day of the month until his appeal is disposed off by the court.
