In a powerful show of compassion and community spirit, Equity Bank joined Ugandans in marking World Blood Donor Day with a public blood donation drive held at Mini Price, downtown Kampala, alongside customers and well-wishers.
Under the theme “You Don’t Need a Cape to Be a Hero”, the initiative highlighted the lifesaving impact of blood donation, reminding the public that a single pint of blood can save up to three lives.

“Every day, hospitals across Uganda face critical shortages of blood,” said an Equity Bank representative at the event. “From mothers in labour to accident victims and children battling cancer—so many lives depend on donors they may never meet. That’s why we’re here.”
This week’s campaign builds on earlier activities in which Equity Bank staff and customers gave blood across several branches, affirming the bank’s commitment to community wellness under its #BeyondBankingWeCare initiative.

World Blood Donor Day, observed annually on June 14, aims to raise awareness about the need for safe blood and to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-giving gifts.
“Heroes don’t always wear capes,” the bank’s message read. “Sometimes, they wear a smile, roll up their sleeves, and quietly save lives.”
Equity Bank continues to encourage all eligible individuals to donate blood regularly, helping ensure that no patient’s life hangs in the balance for lack of a simple, selfless act. Give blood. Give hope. Give life.
