Vivo Energy Uganda has commissioned a Shell Gas Bulk Tank installation at Buwambo Seed Secondary School, reaffirming its commitment to expanding access to safe, clean and sustainable cooking energy in educational institutions across Uganda.

Through these investments, the company is supporting institutions to improve operational efficiency, promote healthier learning environments, reduce environmental impact and contribute to Uganda’s clean energy transition.

The Shell Gas bulk installation at Buwambo Seed Secondary School is a fully engineered institutional cooking solution designed to provide a safe, reliable and uninterrupted supply of LPG for large-scale meal preparation.

The facility includes a bulk LPG storage vessel (bullet tank), pressure regulation equipment, gas piping networks, isolation valves, gas manifolds, emergency shut-off systems, leak detection mechanisms, firefighting equipment and other safety infrastructure that ensures the highest standards of operational safety.

The commissioning marks another milestone in Vivo Energy Uganda’s continued partnership with schools to accelerate the adoption of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as a cleaner alternative to traditional cooking fuels such as firewood and charcoal.

The initiative complements the Government of Uganda’s commitment to increasing access to clean cooking technologies as part of the country’s broader energy transition agenda.

The Government continues to encourage institutions, businesses and households to reduce dependence on biomass fuels such as firewood and charcoal, which remain significant contributors to deforestation, environmental degradation and indoor air pollution.

The adoption of cleaner fuels such as LPG supports national efforts to conserve forests, reduce carbon emissions, improve public health and accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

Bulk LPG systems significantly reduce the time required to prepare meals, enabling schools to serve students more efficiently and on schedule. The systems also eliminate the logistical challenges associated with purchasing, transporting and storing large quantities of firewood while helping institutions better manage their energy costs over time.

Joanita Mukasa Menya, Managing Director of Vivo Energy Uganda, said, “At Vivo Energy Uganda, we believe energy has the power to transform lives beyond mobility. By supporting schools with safe and reliable Shell Gas solutions, we are helping create healthier learning environments, improving operational efficiency and contributing to Uganda’s transition towards cleaner sources of energy. We are proud to partner with educational institutions that are embracing innovation while safeguarding the wellbeing of their learners, staff and surrounding communities. This investment reflects our long-term commitment to supporting national development through sustainable energy solutions.”

Alvin Bamutire, LPG Manager at Vivo Energy Uganda, said, “Safety remains at the heart of every Shell Gas installation we undertake. From the initial engineering assessments and system design to installation, commissioning, staff training and ongoing maintenance, we ensure that every component meets rigorous international standards.

Our institutional LPG solutions provide schools with a dependable, efficient and safe source of energy while giving them access to continuous technical support that guarantees reliable operations for years to come.”

Willy Kiwanuka, the Headteacher of Buwambo Seed Secondary School, welcomed the partnership, saying: “The commissioning of this Shell Gas bulk installation is a transformative investment for our school. It will enable us to prepare meals more efficiently, maintain a cleaner and healthier kitchen environment, and improve the overall welfare of both our learners and staff.

We appreciate Vivo Energy Uganda for choosing to partner with Buwambo Seed Secondary School in advancing safe and sustainable cooking practices. This investment will have a lasting positive impact on our institution.”

Buwambo Seed Secondary School joins a growing list of educational institutions that have embraced Shell Gas as their preferred clean cooking solution. These include King’s College Budo, St. Peter’s Bombo Kalule, Kibuli Secondary School, Kiira College Butiki, Mengo Secondary School, Nabisunsa Girls’ School and many other schools across Uganda that continue to benefit from modern, efficient and environmentally responsible cooking technologies.
