Vivo Energy Uganda has commissioned a Shell Gas Bulk Tank installation at Buwambo Seed Secondary School, reaffirming its commitment to expanding access to safe, clean and sustainable cooking energy in educational institutions across Uganda.
Through these investments, the company is supporting institutions to improve operational efficiency, promote healthier learning environments, reduce environmental impact and contribute to Uganda’s clean energy transition.
The Shell Gas bulk installation at Buwambo Seed Secondary School is a fully engineered institutional cooking solution designed to provide a safe, reliable and uninterrupted supply of LPG for large-scale meal preparation.
The facility includes a bulk LPG storage vessel (bullet tank), pressure regulation equipment, gas piping networks, isolation valves, gas manifolds, emergency shut-off systems, leak detection mechanisms, firefighting equipment and other safety infrastructure that ensures the highest standards of operational safety.
The commissioning marks another milestone in Vivo Energy Uganda’s continued partnership with schools to accelerate the adoption of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as a cleaner alternative to traditional cooking fuels such as firewood and charcoal.
The initiative complements the Government of Uganda’s commitment to increasing access to clean cooking technologies as part of the country’s broader energy transition agenda.
The Government continues to encourage institutions, businesses and households to reduce dependence on biomass fuels such as firewood and charcoal, which remain significant contributors to deforestation, environmental degradation and indoor air pollution.
The adoption of cleaner fuels such as LPG supports national efforts to conserve forests, reduce carbon emissions, improve public health and accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
Bulk LPG systems significantly reduce the time required to prepare meals, enabling schools to serve students more efficiently and on schedule. The systems also eliminate the logistical challenges associated with purchasing, transporting and storing large quantities of firewood while helping institutions better manage their energy costs over time.
