Kyadondo — The Black Pearls Rugby Club have once again etched their name in Uganda rugby history, securing their fourth consecutive Uganda Women’s XVs Premiership title, despite a final-day defeat to rivals Thunderbirds.

In a thrilling Week 14 encounter at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds, the Thunderbirds handed the Pearls their first loss in four years, winning 24–10. It marked the Thunderbirds’ first victory over the Black Pearls since 2019 and a historic end to the season.

However, the Black Pearls’ dominant performance throughout the season ensured they still topped the table, finishing with 55 points, just one ahead of the Thunderbirds’ 54.

“At the end of the day, the quality of my players shone through,” said Head Coach Koyokoyo Buteme, celebrating the resilience of her team.

The Pearls’ 2025 triumph matches the Thunderbirds’ record for the most titles in the women’s league, solidifying their place as one of Uganda’s rugby powerhouses.

With a season record of 11 wins and 1 loss, scoring 600 points and conceding only 158, the Black Pearls not only lifted the trophy but continued their legacy as Uganda’s top female rugby side, adding to their impressive list of accolades across 15s, 7s, and 10s formats.

The club also celebrated its standout players from the season finale: Lydia Namabiro and Grace Auma, who received accolades and UGX 50,000 cash prizes as Players of the Match.

“This isn’t just about silverware. It’s about legacy, growth, and empowering women through sport,” the club posted on social media. “We’ll be back stronger. Thank you, fans and opponents. We take nothing for granted.”

With the curtain closed on another remarkable season, the Black Pearls remain queens of the pitch, but the Thunderbirds’ resurgence promises an even more competitive future for women’s rugby in Uganda.
