Kampala Minister, Beti Olive Namisango Kamya has refuted claims that she sneaked a gun out of the Parliamentary chambers last week that had been alledly illegally carried into the House by the State Minister for Water Ronald Kibuule.
A scuffle erupted in the house last week after MPs on the opposition side accused Kibuule of having entered the chambers with a gun thereby putting their security at risk. They said it contravened the Parliamentary rules of procedure.
A body search ordered by the Speaker yielded no gun. However, Kadaga later in the week ruled that after going through the CCTV footage, it had been confirmed that indeed Kibuule had entered the house with a gun.
Rumors later circulated that Kibuule upon noticing tempers flare had discreetly passed the rifle to Minister of Kampala, Kamya and she had exited the chambers with it in her bag.
Kamya told parliament on Wednesday that she did never saw the gun with Mukono north MP Ronald Kibule nor was her bag used to sneak the alleged gun out.
“For the New Vision to just irresponsibly write something as if it was the truth and even quote a source in Parliament who told them that this was captured on CCTV camera, I think is extremely irresponsible,” Kamya submitted.
The Minister called upon Parliament to bring the newspaper to order for publishing falsehoods against her.
“I pray that this House through you [Speaker] calls the New Vision to order and remind them that their mandate is to give Ugandans correct, researched news not to join the frey of sessional journalism which they are fighting for now.”
She further asked the newspaper to retract the story against her and apologize to her.
The Speaker ruled that she will give direction on the issues raised at a later time.
