The Church of Uganda has warned members of the public against donning bishops’ vestments.
Rev Canon William Ongeng, the Provincial Secretary of the Church of Uganda, termed it “an infringement of Church of Uganda registered trademarks for bishops’ vestments”.
“The Church of Uganda wishes to inform the general public that it has registered trademarks for 42 Bishops’ vestments with the Uganda Registrations Services Bureau (URSB),” said Rev Can Ongeng.
He said these vestments are protected under the Intellectual Property Laws of Uganda.
“Be advised that only Bishops of the Church of Uganda are permitted to don these registered vestments. Any unauthorized use of these vestments is an infringement of our Trademark Rights,” he noted.
He added: “The Church of Uganda will prosecute individuals or entities found wearing or utilizing these vestments for Trademark Infringement.”
He said the Church of Uganda is committed to protecting its Trademarks and will pursue all necessary measures to enforce its rights.
